Designers' Showcase

The WEDF Designers' Showcase at Paintworks in Bristol will give WEDF members an opportunity to exhibit their work to a wide audience of fellow members and the general public. The Showcase will open with a private view at 6pm on Tuesday 15th July and will then be open to public viewing over the following two days. It's a chance to network with other designers and to promote your business to potential clients. Over 50 businesses and individuals from all over the region will be showing work covering product design, graphics, digital media, interiors, architecture, illustration, photography and exhibition design.

Booking forms are being sent out now and there are still a few spaces left so if you're interested and haven't already booked your space email us soon. Simon Waterfall, D&AD President

As part of the Designers' Showcase, at the Paintworks, we are delighted to welcome Simon Waterfall to talk on the Wednesday evening.

After studying his Masters in Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art in 1994, Simon co-founded Deepend design which grew as the industry embraced digital. It blossomed to 350 staff in nine offices round the world and became the number one creative agency in the UK for three years running and number one in the world in 2001.

In 2001 he with five partners set up Poke which was a vehicle to challenge everything that they had learned, practiced and preached. It become the number one digital studio in the UK in 2006 and is part of the advertising company 'Mother'.

In September 2007 he became the youngest and first Digital President of D&AD and in November was awarded with the title of Royal Designer of Industry, the highest honour in design.

Degree Shows

Our Undergrad students are, essentially, 3D Computer Animators with a significant technical aspect. Their academic year is currently coming to an end, and their degree show (when a compilation showreel will be available ) is on Friday 11th July at The Moving Picture Company, 127 Wardour Street, London W1F 0NL. The doors open at 11am, and the showreel will be screened from 12noon until late-afternoon. We currently have three MA's running. MA 3D Computer Animation, MA Digital Effects, which are both taught courses, and Masters By Project, which is a course for experienced professionals to spend a year producing a substantial project. These programmes finish at the end of September. Their degree show hasn't been arranged yet, but typically takes place on the first Friday in October at Moving Picture Company. Open Studio Fridays

Love working at home but miss the opportunity for creative brainstorming and interesting conversations? Work in a studio/office but want a change of environment occasionally? Inspired by Jelly in New York, every week the Pervasive Media Studio opens its doors to anyone who fancies some casual co-working. We provide chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile) and provide the conversation.

Open Studio Fridays take place every week, starting on 2nd May, and is open to people of any discipline/sector. Doors open at 9.30 am and close at 5.00 pm (usually with a trip to the bar).
