The Institute of Internal Communication has launched its new-style IoIC Awards 2012 and is inviting entries.

There are 39 award categories which recognise excellence in communicating with employees, members, volunteers and other internal audiences. They are open to agencies, consultancies and in-house teams.

Best use of design categories include: digital, feature-led magazine, news-led magazine, newspaper, integrated.

Best use of digital media categories include: intranet, microsite, ezine, interactive (blog), audio, video, membership.

There are also two new innovation categories this year - most innovative use of media and 'game changer' (looking for imagination in practice that expands our sense of what might be possible in internal communication).

All the IoIC's award categories have been incorporated into one high-profile scheme and award dinner this year, including the IoIC ICons which, rather than focusing on specific projects and campaigns, celebrate individual and team work, qualities and attainment.

The deadline for entries is 17th February, and winners will receive their awards at an industry dinner at the Hilton Park Lane in London on 15 June.

Complete information and an entry form is available at http://www.ioic.org.uk/content/events/awards.html

An invitation to improve the Ann Street / Providence Place Gardens area, Brighton

Brighton & Hove City Council is inviting architects, designers, artists and/or event …

Brighton & Hove City Council is inviting architects, designers, artists and/or event programmers (including collaborations between professionals within and outside the UK) to bid for a commission for up to €50.000 (fifty thousand Euros) for the pilot design that transforms and enhances people’s experience of the Ann Street / ProvidencePlaceGardens area of Brighton.

This is part of the INTERREG IVB Lively Cities (LICI) project to turn the street and small park in front of the majestic St Bartholomew’s Church into a successful and well-used space. The area is part of the wider regeneration of the London Road area of the city.

The pilot will be tested out this autumn, with the most successful features becoming permanent fixtures.

The commission involves a three stage selection process: pre-qualification, short-list of 5 proposals and invitation to tender of the 5 short-listed.

Five ideas will be shortlisted in March and the applicants asked to develop detailed proposals for a public exhibition at the end of April. A selection panel will choose the winner at the end of May. The public will have the chance to vote for their favourite via an exhibition in early May which will inform the final decision.

To help applicants better understand how the project area currently works as well as the concerns and aspirations of present and potential future users, the council has produced supporting documents that details information gathered via a series of consultation events and site assessment work carried out between July and December 2011.

For general, up to date information on the Brighton & Hove Lively Cities project please visit www.brightonhove.gov.uk/livelycities and http://www.facebook.com/livelycitiesbrighton.

For information on the competition, related documentation and guidance on how to apply please visit from the 12 January 2012 onwards the South East Business Portal on the Improving Efficiency South East Website (www.businessportal.southeastiep.gov.uk). Applicants will need to search for ‘Opportunities’ against Brighton and Hove Council from this website to access the relevant Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ), and submit it according to the timescales in the document.

The deadline for submissions is 29 February 2012, 5pm.

Please note that submissions entered after this date will not be evaluated, and all relevant material required to support your submission should be sent to the relevant contact.

Illuminate Bath 2012

Following on from a successful first festival last November, Illuminate Bath returns, from Wednesday 25 to Saturday 28 January, bringing beautiful and engaging projected artworks to the city centre. Banishing the gloom of January’s long evenings, this ‘festival of light’ will include seven original installations in public spaces, all of which will be completely free for the public to explore.

With something to captivate all ages, the festival will include work by international and local artists, alongside art created by Bath school children and Art & Design students from Bath Spa University.

The highlight of Illuminate Bath 2012 will undoubtedly be Clockwork City created by Greyworld, an artists’ collective which has created mesmerising public art works across the world. Greyworld has created work in London, Warsaw and Bangkok and is currently working on a special commission in St. Petersburg. For the Bath multi-venue installation, visitors will find that large keys have been mysteriously attached to street furniture such as bins and benches. When turned, the keys will trigger lights, projected images and sounds, magically bringing the dark street to life. http://www.greyworld.org

The other installations in the festival will include:

Catch Me Now by Tine Bech: Children, in particular, will love to chase this deceptively simple spotlight as it reacts to their movement and leads them on a merry dance. Danish artist, Tine Bech, combines electronics with location tracking technology and the environmental elements of urban spaces to create playful experiences for curious visitors. http://www.tinebech.com

New light installation by Alex Cotterell, Will Kendrick, Lumen and OCD: Bath’s most famous landmark, the Roman Baths, will be transformed for two nights into a colour-filled oasis by light projections onto the water of The Great Bath. As the steam rises into the cold January air, this promises to be a truly enchanting spectacle. The balcony area of the baths will open for the public to view the projected experience for free for two nights during the festival.

Heads, Bodies, Legs by Petra Freeman and St. Saviours Junior School: Bath based animator Petra Freeman and filmmaker Tim Rolt, collaborate with 50 children and staff from St. Saviours to make an interactive animated version of this traditional pencil and paper game.

Attracted to Light by Robert Fearns and students from Bath Spa University: Bath-based artist and filmmaker Robert Fearns, specialises in exploring how we see, experience and create urban spaces. Attracted to Light is inspired by the way humans use light to navigate through the night-time urban jungle. Like moths to a lamp, we too are drawn to the images and shadows created by numerous small light sources.

Live Drawing & Creative Writing: Illustrators and writers from Bath Spa University will create artworks live, projected onto the wall of the Pump Room, as the audience looks on.

Visit Illuminate Bath's website for further details.
